Victor Folk on a Boat Nights Return for the 2019/20 Season

The popular winter season of "Folk on a Boat" concerts aboard the Sailing Barge Victor continues on Friday 18th October 2019.


A fantastic line-up of top local artists will perform in the intimate and atmospheric polished wood saloon of the historic 19th Century Barge, moored on Ipswich Waterfront. The hatch opens at 7.30pm and the concert starts at 8.00pm. Victor has a cosy heated saloon and a fully licensed, well stocked, bar. The folk nights are “static” events and Victor will be moored alongside for the evening.Tickets are £18.50 per person, which includes a hearty hot supper and normally includes chilli con carne, chicken curry, corned beef hash and macaroni cheese (which is the vegetarian option) all served with rice and french stick. It is very much traditional food. If there is any special dietary requirements please make a note of this when booking online.

This is the 6th annual series of the popular "Folk on a Boat" concerts and is set to be better than ever. Concerts take place on Friday evenings every month throughout the winter.

18th October        Ady Johnson 

London based singer songwriter, Ady Johnson, has shared the stage with the likes of Willy Mason, Ben Howard and Scott Matthews. His accomplished, finely crafted style filters the distinctly English tones of Ray Davies and Steve Marriott through a classic, soulful acoustic pop style. "One of the UK's most inventive songwriters" Foz - BBC Radio Suffolk.

15th November    Holly Johnston 

Holly D Johnston is known on the Folk scene as a singer of stories and captivating performer. 
She is a songwriter and a storyteller and morphs between live music, storytelling and poetry. Holly’s heartfelt lyrics woven together in memorable tunes are sung with a voice that is warm, ethereal and passionate. Holly gives listeners an intimate, thought provoking show, and her songs deliver: 'hauntingly exact observations... with poetic candour'. Her voice is repeatedly praised as 'mellow, clear and expressive', her sound: ‘seductive and enthralling’.  ‘An amazing talent’.

13th December    Elly Tree

Toe-tapping, spirit-lifting, original acoustici-sh music.  Since 2013 EllY Tree have been bringing passion and flair to  “quirky, intelligent and irresistible songs, performed with a driving ukelele and a voice that seems to summon up the gods.”  We are based in Ipswich and perform mostly in East Anglia, though we have ventured as far as Somerset on one memorably muddy occasion!  

17th January        Mc2

Paul McCartney, Peter Gosling and Dave Orrey, all excellent musicians who have between them years of experience with other bands in a variety of genres, have been playing together as Mc2 (pronounced Mac two) for the best part of 10 years. s a three piece acoustic band (guitar, mandolin/guitar2 and double bass) heavy rock & blues don't figure, but lively foot tapping numbers, laid back Americana, tuneful ballads, laugh out loud comedy songs and one or two select chart hits from through the years give a variety to their act that keeps the audience engaged.

20th March           Double Take

Double Take is a trio with Jackie Ord on vocals & guitar, John Fodor on double-necked guitar & vocals, and Peter Corp on bass. Jackie has been playing guitar and writing songs for nearly 30 years, first in London and now in Suffolk both as a solo artiste and in bands.
Guitarist, John, originally from Ohio, USA, has been playing guitar since he was 8 and has been in countless bands. Bassist, Peter, plays pretty much anything with strings – as well as recording and producing other artistes at his own “Owl Studios” in Suffolk.

17th April             The Silburys

The Silburys are a four piece Folk Rock outfit formed from acclaimed East Anglian duo “Silbury Hill” – Scott Dolling(flute, guitar, vocals) and David Stainer (guitar, mandolin, vocals) – now augmented with Diz Deacon (bass, vocals) and Martin Lindford (drums). With 3 cd’s of original material to date, concerts throughout UK, France and Belgium, and having supported national artistes in the genre – such as “Oysterband” and“Faustus” – you can expect a lively set of original material alongside some classics from the likes of “Jethro Tull” and “Fairport Convention”

Victor was built in Ipswich in 1895 and for decades carried bulk cargo between the ports on the East Coast. These days she is completely refurbished and provides pleasure cruises on the Orwell and Stour rivers as well as being a venue for events.
